Avera McKennan – Project SEARCH Tour – Free Event – Space is Limited.
If you are curious about the Project SEARCH program come to this session. Participants will be transported to Avera/McKennan to see the program first hand. You will learn about the opportunities available through the Project SEARCH program and get a tour of the facility including some of the internships. Current Project SEARCH students will be available for questions and discussion.
Project SEARCH is a unique business-led transition program for students with disabilities. Students who want to work have the chance to explore careers and develop transferable job skills. The goal of the Project SEARCH program is competitive employment for each intern. Designed as an internship program, Project SEARCH affords students the opportunity to put employability skills into practice. For five days a week, students report to the host business and learn employability skills in the classroom and job skills while participating in targeted internships. They receive support with accommodations, adaptations, and on-the-job coaching.
Students who have completed all academic requirements for high school graduation may apply for enrollment in Project SEARCH. Participants must be 18 to 21 years old. Space permitting, young adults ages 21-25 may apply. South Dakota currently has four Project SEARCH sites: Aberdeen at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Brookings at SDSU, Rapid City at Rapid City Region Hospital and Sioux Falls at Avera McKennan Hospital.
